How it works

How a revenue management consulting engagement runs

From a free discovery call to a strategy your team runs, in four to eight weeks.

  1. 01

    Discovery call

Thirty minutes on your property, your market and where you think revenue is leaking. We scope the engagement and confirm the price before any work starts.

    Free

  2. 02

    Revenue audit

Read-only access to your PMS, channel manager and extranets. We analyse the data, shop your comp set and interview the people who set rates today.

    2 to 3 weeks

  3. 03

    Strategy roadmap

A written report and a working session: the gaps ranked by value, the pricing and distribution strategy to close them, and a 12-month calendar.

    Week 4

  4. 04

    Implementation support

We set the strategy up in your systems with your team, train them to run it, and check in monthly. Or we run it for you as outsourced revenue management.

    Optional

Consulting or outsourced?

Two ways to work with a hotel revenue manager

Same revenue managers, same method. The difference is who makes the daily decisions.

Consulting

Revenue management consulting

Fixed scope, fixed price, defined deliverables. You keep the decisions and the team; we bring the audit, the strategy and the training.

  • You have a revenue manager or a GM who prices
  • You want an independent view or a reset
  • Project priced, 4 to 8 weeks
  • Optional monthly check-ins afterwards
Outsourced

Outsourced revenue management

We become your revenue department on a monthly retainer: daily rate and restriction decisions, forecasting, distribution and monthly reporting.

  • You have no revenue manager, or want to replace the role
  • You want daily decisions made for you
  • Monthly retainer, no long lock-in
  • Includes forecasts, budgets and OTA work
Revenue management consulting

What revenue management consulting is, and when a hotel needs it

Revenue management is the discipline of selling the right room to the right guest at the right time, through the right channel, at the right price. Revenue management consulting brings that discipline to a hotel that does not have it in-house, or has it and wants an independent check: we audit how rooms are priced, restricted, distributed and forecast today, quantify the gap against what the market would pay, and deliver the strategy, calendar, reports and training to close it.

Every engagement is fixed-scope and fixed-price, runs remotely in your time zone, and takes four to eight weeks from the first call to a strategy your own team can run. Implementation support and monthly check-ins are optional afterwards.

Four moments hotels call a revenue management consultant

In each case the first step is the same, a revenue audit, and the deliverable is a strategy the hotel's own team can run.

Performance has flattened

RevPAR is stuck while the comp set grows and the market moves on without you.

No revenue manager

The role left, was never hired, or the GM prices rooms between other duties.

Opening, renovation or rebrand

A new positioning needs a pricing and distribution strategy built from scratch.

An owner wants an independent view

Asset managers and owners need the operator's numbers checked by someone outside.

Analytical before creative

The strategy is written last

We spend the first weeks on evidence, which is why every engagement is fixed-scope and the report states the expected revenue range before you spend on implementation.

  1. 01Read 12 to 24 months of reservations, rates, restrictions and channel costs
  2. 02Shop the competitive set daily for several weeks
  3. 03Rebuild the demand calendar by segment and lead time
  4. 04Only then write the rate architecture, restriction rules and distribution plan

What you get from a hotel revenue management consultant

A written revenue audit

Every gap ranked by value, with the expected revenue range stated up front.

A pricing architecture per room type

BAR levels, seasonal and event adjustments, lead-time and day-of-week rules, on a 12-month calendar.

A distribution strategy

Which channels to sell on, at what net rate, with which promotions, and how to keep them in parity.

A forecast and budget process

With the weekly pace and pickup reports your team needs to run it.

A trained team

People who can keep all of it going, with a consultant a message away.

Revenuenaire's revenue managers have run revenue for independent hotels, boutique properties, resorts and serviced apartments in more than 50 countries, and built the pricing engine we use ourselves. If you would rather we ran the strategy day to day, consulting hands over naturally into outsourced revenue management.

FAQ

Revenue management consulting questions

What hotels ask before hiring a revenue management consultant.

What is hotel revenue management consulting?

Revenue management consulting is an independent, fixed-scope engagement in which an experienced revenue manager audits how a hotel prices, distributes and forecasts its rooms, then delivers the strategy, tools and training to earn more from the same inventory. Unlike outsourced revenue management, the consultant does not make the daily decisions; your team does, with a better strategy and a clear calendar.

What does a hotel revenue management consultant actually do?

Reviews 12 to 24 months of performance and decision data, shops your competitive set, analyses channel mix and net revenue after commission, interviews the people who set rates, and then writes the pricing architecture, restriction rules, distribution strategy, forecast and budget process the hotel should run. Good consultants also set it up in your systems and train the team to keep it running.

How much does revenue management consulting cost?

Engagements are quoted after a free discovery call, based on room count, number of room types and channels, and the scope you choose. A revenue audit with a strategy roadmap for an independent hotel is a fixed project fee; training days and monthly check-ins are priced separately. Start in the chat with your room count and we will send a scope and a price.

How long does an engagement take?

A revenue audit and strategy roadmap takes four to eight weeks from discovery call to final working session, depending on data access and the number of room types and channels. Implementation support and training follow at your pace.

Is consulting delivered remotely?

Yes. Every engagement is remote, scheduled in your time zone, with read-only access to your PMS, channel manager and extranets and working sessions on Zoom. We have consulted for hotels in more than 50 countries this way.

Do I need a revenue management system first?

No. Many clients come to us before choosing a system, and system selection is part of the consulting scope. A strategy can be run from a PMS and a channel manager alone; an RMS, PriceLabs or Revenuenaire Dynamic Pricing automates it once the strategy exists.

Is revenue management consulting worth it for a small independent hotel?

Usually more than for a large one, because a small hotel rarely has a revenue manager and its pricing is set by the owner or GM between other duties. A one-off audit and strategy typically finds 10 to 25 percent of rooms revenue, and the calendar we leave behind keeps paying without a monthly fee.

What results can I expect?

Across clients we see an average RevPAR lift of 38 percent over the following year, driven by rate architecture, restrictions and channel mix rather than discounting. Your audit report states the expected range for your property before you commit to implementation.
